Cape Town Medical and Community Volunteers

Orientation

You will have your detailed orientation session on your arrival into Cape Town, before you begin work on your project. This orientation will aim to get you settled in and give you a load of information about your project, the other projects in the area and what you should expect as a volunteer. This is the ideal to get any burning questions answered.

Accommodation and Meals

You will be staying at a fully furnished house in the beautiful seaside town of Fish Hoek with an amazing safe beach nearby and Cape Town a short drive away. You will be provided with three meals a day.

Free Time

You’ll have no trouble feeling up your free time in Cape Town. You can head to the beach, ascend Table Mountains for some magnificent views, explore the Cape Peninsula... and so on! Getting out of the city also provides a load of entertainment, from the vineyards of the Garden Route to the fantastic array of wildlife that South Africa has on offer. You’ll have no time to get bored!

Some of other options available are:

  • The Aquila private game reserve – this is a reserve 2 hours out of Cape town which has the Big 5 as some of its inhabitants – it costs R850pp and includes a 3 hours game drive plus a buffet breakfast and lunch at the reserve. There may also be the opportunity to pet Cheetahs!
  • Enjoy the sights of Cape Town either by foot near Fish Hoek or on the city hop on-hop off bus
  • Take the weekend to enjoy the Garden Route.

All extra activities are at your own cost and can be arranged for you by the on site coordinators.

We also have a number of overland tours that depart from Cape Town, which you can do after your programme has finished. These include trips to Nairobi or the mighty Victoria Falls. Please contact a member of the Africa team for further information on these trips.

Project Support

Your support throughout this project is supplied by the in country team, who will be on hand throughout your time in Cape Town to offer advice, answer questions and just generally make sure that you are getting on alright!

Project Requirements

To apply onto this programme, you must have previous medical experience and a basic medical background. If you are planning to enter medical studies after the project, this will also be acceptable.
