South Africa Wild Coast HIV AIDS Support

Trip code: SAHA

The unchecked spread of the HIV/AIDS virus in the village of Hamburg in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province has had a devastating effect on the local community. Not only does this project offer treatment for AIDS sufferers, it also aims to support existing community initiatives to provide local people with the valuable skills and education needed to rejuvenate this impoverished area. Programme Details

The project is run by a non-profit organisation that was set up in 2000 to establish skills development and income generating activities in the village of Hamburg in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. The projects are run with the aim or promoting hope and health as well as pride and self-respect among the people living by the Keiskamma River, a desperately poor area of the Eastern Cape.

The organisation runs three main projects; Aids treatment, Art Projects and Education Initiatives, the combination of which has been vital in tackling some of the social problems associated with HIV/AIDS and poverty and has provided the villagers with valuable, income-generating skills.
