What’s more, travelling on a Sri Lanka gap year is an absolute pleasure – Sri Lankans are some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet, the food is fantastic and it’s a small enough place to really get to grips with.

A particularly rewarding Sri Lanka travel option is to get involved with a Sri Lanka volunteer gap year project whilst you’re out there. Sri Lanka suffered tremendously as a result of the terrible Boxing Day 2004 tsunami and there are a number of worthwhile projects you can give help to if you travel to Sri Lanka – from teaching abroad in schools to re-building houses destroyed by the tsunami.
