Gap Year Brochure

Sri Lanka, 'the teardrop of India' encapsulates a taste of everything India has to offer but on a smaller scale. Long tropical beaches, small herds of wild elephants, ancient historical sites and lush green tea plantations, Sri Lanka is a truly beautiful island that could do with some volunteer help.

Real Gap's Sri Lanka Highlights

Colombo
Colombo is the bustling and vibrant capital city of Sri Lanka. You will need to arrange your flight to Colombo for any of our volunteer programmes in Sri Lanka and there will be a one night stop over and meal in Colombo included before your volunteer project starts so that you can get to know the city better.

Polonnaruwa
The ancient city of Polonnaruwa is the location of two of our volunteer project, the Sri Lanka Orphanage project and the Sri Lanka Teaching

Polonnaruwa was the royal capital of Sri Lanka for three centuries during the Chola and Sinhalese kingdoms. It is nearly 1000 years old and its monuments and ruins are fantastic to explore.

Tissamaharama
Tissamaharama or Tissa (a much needed abbreviation!) is the location of our Sri Lanka Sports Coaching project. It is a busy town, its main attraction being the Yala National Park which is recognised as one of the best places in the world to observe leopards.
