Student Travel
Student travel these days has moved on a great deal from the traditional stereotype of perhaps doing a few weeks Inter-Railing or going on a two week package holiday with your mates to Spain or Greece. In fact the possibilities for student travel are pretty much only limited by your imagination. The great thing about student travel is that it is a period of life when you have the time on your hands to really get stuck in to some serious travelling. Many universities have a summer break extending from June through to October, leaving plenty of scope for student travel. Real Gap's ‘Student Travel' page aims to provide a few ideas and inspiration to students tired of the same old routine each summer.
Student Travel - USA
One of Real Gap's most popular student travel programmes is our ‘Paid Student Summer Jobs Programme USA.' This student travel programme guarantees current university students a paid summer job in the USA. It's possible to spend 2 to 4 months in the USA working in a number of jobs - from assisting at a theme park to waiting on tables in a restaurant. This form of student travel is a great way to earn cash over the summer (usually with accommodation included) whilst experiencing American life. Once your work has finished the ‘student travel' element of the programme really kicks in - on average you have an entire month in which to travel the States before returning home.
Student Travel - Canada
Another excellent student travel option you could consider is to experience life north of the US border - in Canada. If you have a place confirmed at university, are currently at university or have graduated from university in the past year you can get paid student travel work in Canada with Real Gap's ‘Work and Travel Canada - Canadian Working Holiday Programme.' With this student travel programme you can apply for a wide variety of seasonal jobs and, as with the USA programme, there is plenty time to do some travelling once your work has finished.
Student Travel - learn a language
If you are studying Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese or Mandarin then why not do some student travel and boost your skills at the same time by studying at a language school in Japan, Latin America, Brazil or China? In China not only do you learn Mandarin with Real Gap's ‘Work and Travel China - Paid Teaching English Programme' but you also get a paid work placement at a top private school.
Student Travel - Give something back
An increasingly popular form of student travel is to get involved with a worthwhile volunteer project. Obviously this form of student travel isn't paid, so you will need to fund it yourself - but an excellent way around this is to receive sponsorship for your project (see Real Gap's ‘Gap year fundraising, saving for a gap year' page for ideas regarding this). This type of student travel is extremely rewarding and looks great on your CV too.
