Volunteer Role
Provide vital assistance to orphans and local street children in a vocational support programme, which aims to reintegrate children back into school and society, whilst also creating a safe, stable and caring network in which their rights as children will remain protected and free from abuse.
As a volunteer, you will be working in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Child Protection. Thus, you will ensure the following guidelines are responded to throughout your work:
- Responding to the right of survival – food, health and security
- Providing life skills – education and vocational training
- Supporting children in making life decisions and helping them to achieve these objectives
- Teaching children the traditions of their culture to prevent alienation
- Allowing children to express creativity (dance, music drama & arts)
- Protecting children from their risks – AIDS, drugs, abuse, etc
- Supporting children in their social reintegration – family, public schools, employment, citizenship and culture
It is important on this project that we offer the much-needed love and support to these children but also recognise their key strengths and skills, which will eventually lead to their success in everyday life, through your encouragement and careful education.
