Tanzania Reach Out to Children
There are a number of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools situated in the Arusha region of northern Tanzania for disadvantaged or orphaned children from the rural communities. Volunteers offer vital support to a handful of these and play a valuable part in providing these children with a better start in life.
You may also get involved in various community development projects, such as supporting local women’s groups, sports and HIV/AIDS awareness.
The Volunteer ProjectYou may choose to teach nursery, primary, or secondary level children, or a combination of these. The nursery schools, for example, usually finish by midday, so you may wish to spend the afternoon teaching academic subjects, or sports at one of the primary, or secondary schools close by.
Possibly the most important aspect of what you will be doing is giving these children a little of the love and attention that they so desperately crave and keeping them off the streets.
Many of the schools are seriously under-funded and therefore any materials, or equipment, for example books, teaching materials and sports equipment that you can take with you to help with lessons and activities are very welcome.
