Tanzania Tanzania is a country rich in culture and traditions. With its magnificent world class National Parks offering superb wildlife safaris in the Serengetti and Ngorongoro Crater, its Indian Ocean coastline and the tropical beaches of Zanzibar Island, Mt Kilimanjaro the tallest mountain in Africa, and its warm climate...it is no wonder Tanzania is such a popular destination.
Tanzania is a very poor country, which has not enjoyed the same economic growth as Kenya and hence the infrastructure is much less developed.
Free Time Your weekends are free for you to relax and spend time with the other volunteers. There are plenty of activities and things to do, such as sports games, live music events, bars, markets and shopping for local crafts whilst in Arusha.
Arusha is known as the gateway to the northern safari circuit, which includes the spectacular Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Serengeti National Parks and the Ngorongoro Crater. You may also like to spend a week living and working in a traditional Maasai village, experiencing their culture and way of life.
Kilimanjaro, the largest volcano in Africa is also popular with visitors wanting to trek to its peak. Alternatively, why not take a longer and more relaxing trip to the Spice Island of Zanzibar and unwind on the white sand Indian Ocean beaches? If you are interested in booking any one of these weekend activities, these can easily be arranged in Tanzania through your project coordinator.
Being in Tanzania means that you are close to Dar es Salaam, which is a major transport hub for overland tours as the gateway to Eastern and Southern Africa. We have tours that last from 7 days to 56. Please contact us to enquire about these options and we will be happy to send you further details and help you explore Africa in a safe and adventurous way.
Getting There You will need to arrange your flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Upon arrival you will have a meet and greet with one of the project representatives. You will be transferred about 45 minutes by road to the volunteer house.
