You will be based at the Community Education Centre in the Pavão-Pavãozinho favelas in the Southern Zone of Rio on Brazil’s Atlantic coast. The diverse and vibrant city has much to offer the visitor. With its non-stop nightlife, tourist attractions, and stunning beaches such as the infamous Copacabana located in the same district as the teaching centre, you will never be short of things to do.

Rio de Janeiro
The project is located in the picturesque city of Rio de Janeiro, found on Brazil’s Atlantic coast. Its mile-long stretches of white sandy beach, buzzing nightlife and countless tourist attractions, make Rio a city with something for everybody.

What’s more, the world famous Copacabana beach is conveniently located just a short walk from the teaching centre.

Free time

Volunteers are only expected to work 2 hours per day, or alternatively 10 hours per week. However, you are free to work as many hours as you would like in addition to this. The latest you will finish is 6pm. In your spare time, we recommend you explore as much of Rio as possible; there is a lot on offer. The cable car up to Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açucar) is particularly impressive, as is the well-known statue of Christ (Christ o Redentor), which looks down upon the city. The world famous beaches are ideal for volleyball, football, or simply relaxing by the crystal clear sea!

The school organises weekly excursions and your free time will be at the weekends.

Getting There
You will need to arrange your flights to Rio de Janeiro airport. You’ll be met and transferred to your accommodation where you will be made to feel at home right away.
