The schools have around 140 children (mostly boys) aged between 4-14 years old and have few teachers. It provides children with housing, food and a proper education. The school is aimed at orphans and poor children, mostly from hill tribes in the north of Thailand. The temple close to the school also serves as a shelter for the children.

Volunteer Role

Your help and skills are needed to give these amazing children the opportunities in life that they deserve. The teachers and villagers are delighted to welcome volunteers, although their level of English is poor. There is no budget for qualified English teachers and this is the main reason why the community requires volunteers to teach.

Also, every year around September - October, the village, temple and school are affected by floods from Chao Phraya River, living conditions can be hard and why volunteer help is so greatly appreciated.

As a volunteer, your duties include:
  • Teach English or look after the kindergarten children if you prefer
  • Help look after the children after school, join in games and help around the temple
  • Create special activities concerning language study and other subjects dependent upon communication with teachers and pupils
Additional opportunities as a volunteer:
  • Participate and teach children in other classes, such as music, arts, IT, kindergarten classes
  • During your weekends, you can join music classes or organise special activities for the children
  • The school has some donated computers but very few teachers know how to use them, any skills you have would be very welcome
  • The temple close by has a small plot of land in which vegetables can be planted to then use for the children’s meals. You could help with this after class or during the weekend.

Project Location

The schools are located in Ang Thong, Central Thailand about 105 Km north of Bangkok or in Pathumthani about 50km north of Bangkok.

Accommodation and Meals

The first and last night is spent in the Royal hotel in Bangkok. For the rest of the project you will be living with a friendly host family. Each house can accommodate 1-2 volunteers. There is bathroom and an Asian style toilet. Your accommodation is normally about 1-2km from the orphanage at most.
