The project is located near Kendalia in the Heart of Texas Hill Country.

State of Texas USA
Texas, the Lone Star State, is the second largest state in the USA. Know for its expansive ranches, rodeos, the large and diverse cities of Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast.

The Rescue Centre is only 1 hour from Austin and 45 minutes from San Antonio. Texas has a vibrant live music scene in Austin boasting more music venues per capita than any other U.S. city, befitting the city's official slogan as The Live Music Capital of the World. Austin's music revolves around the many nightclubs on 6th Street and an annual film, music, and multimedia festival known as South by Southwest.

San Antonio is the third biggest city in Texas with a population breaching 1.2 million. Now the eighth largest city in the United States, the city has retained its sense of history and tradition, while carefully blending in cosmopolitan progress. With sites to see such as the Alamo, the River Walk, Sea World, Six Flags Amusement Park, art museums and Market Square (the home of the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico).

Weekend Travel
You will have two days off each week. These may fall on the weekend, two days in a row or 2 separate days off. During these days off you can stay at the rescue centre or you can opt to do some independent travel. There is not a local taxi service to transport you from the centre to the local towns of Kendalia (5 mins drive away), Blanco (about 20 mins away), and Boerne (35 mins away) but it is very easy to catch a ride with a staff member or another volunteer. Volunteers generally organize activities together on days off. You could possibly discuss trips to the local big cities of San Antonio or Austin. It has been common practice that volunteers plan dinners, evenings out, day trips etc. You will have time to relax and unwind.

Getting There
You will need to arrange your flights to San Antonio International Airport.

On arrival you will be met by one of our project representatives.  You will then be transferred 45 minutes to the project site.
