Kenya Gap Experience
|
The base camp for this Kenya volunteer experience is located 50 km south of Mombasa in a small rural community nestled in the coastal bush and on the edge of the mangroves. One of the main features of the Kenya Gap Experience is the role you play in assisting with local community projects; it's likely that you'll find this the most rewarding part of the programme. The core focus is on education initiatives, which benefit the local school and constantly expanding classes, as well as various building projects.
A unique aspect of the Kenya Gap Experience is a 4-5 day wildlife project in an elephant sanctuary to complement the community projects. The focus is to develop wildlife initiatives, which benefit the local communities and provide support for the preservation of the endangered elephant. In addition, this is effectively a very interactive 4-5-day safari.
Project LocationMombassa and the surrounding rural areas in Kenya.
Accommodation and MealsThe accommodation varies between locations, but always consists of basic but very comfortable tented units or chalets. Individual sleeping units consist of handmade beds, high-density mattresses and individual mosquito nets. The camp cooks who live in and around each camp are responsible for providing three substantial and healthy meals per day.
