“I'm an exam junkie, get me outta here!” Your Real Escape Plan starts here...
Helen Guyver, marketing manager, Real Gap takes us through the escape route...
It's that time of year we affectionately call “limbo-land” - you know you have worked your socks off for the last few months to do the best you can in your A-levels but until you get that precious slip of paper, your future isn't completely decided. Well, at Real Gap, we have hatched a plan to help you get your well-deserved time out before its back to the grindstone …
STEP 1 - STOP WORRYING
There is nothing more you can do now so start looking forward to the adventure of a lifetime. Whether you are travelling before university in September, taking a gap year or unsure what you are doing next, we have programmes running from 2 weeks to 2 years.
Things change? It's free to change your travel dates if you need to…
STEP 2 - FUNDING IT
Announcing the REAL Plan Pack - giving advice on real travelling costs, ways of fundraising (for those of you who have found the Bank of Mum and Dad a bit lean lately) and things you need to think about before you travel.
Did you know that you can get paid work in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA? Or take a TEFL and teach your way around the world. What about becoming a ski or surf instructor? Or how about an underwater videographer? Pretty good stuff for the CV!
What's more, book by 30th June 2008 and we'll give you £50 off*
(That's a couple less days stacking shelves at the local supermarket)
STEP THREE - BOOKING IT
Programmes do get booked up early and spaces are limited so we recommend you book as soon as possible. A small deposit secures your trip for 12 months, giving you time to plan and save!
Chris Hughes, our schools co-ordinator, got the job here because he impressed our MD with his creative fundraising ideas and persistency! Chris booked his programme whilst he was working for the first six months of his gap year. He topped up his salary by fundraising and raiding his parents attic and selling the stuff at boot fairs (good advice: ask your parents first, huh Chris?) and as he adds, “had the most amazing time of my life travelling, playing sport, meeting great people. I will never forget sky diving over Lake Taupo in New Zealand. Best of all was travelling safe in the knowledge I could do all the things I wanted to -I had earned enough to pay for the extras like sky diving, bungee jumping. It really was worth every penny I sweated over and every early morning start.”
