Things to see on a gap year
Start chatting to someone who's travelled and you could easily lose a night to exchanging stories. Did you go to…? What did you think of…? One person's list of things to see is rarely the same as the others - the fun lies in comparing notes!
We've put together a recommended top ten of things to see on a gap year, but the list is by no means definitive or exhaustive. They include some of the most popular spots, which you might like to see, if only to know what all the fuss is about.
We'd like you to take our 'things to see' lists with a pinch of salt (maybe from Bolivia's salt flats!) and use them as a guide rather than a bible.
Apart from anything else, countries like Australia and the USA are so huge you'd be hard pressed to fit our top ten into one trip. Rushing from one sight to another, you probably wouldn't appreciate them anyway, and you might well miss out on what there is to see on the journey between them. If you like one country enough, you can always go back.
Finally - don't forget that the best sights don't always have neon signs outside. Or that discovering sights by yourself makes the attraction all the more attractive.
