Gap Year Brochure

Modern life and the everyday pressures and stresses that go with it can get to us all at times, and it's normal to feel like you need some time out away from it all. This feeling of needing some time out can hit different people at different times. For example it might be that you're a student who's gone through the school system, progressing on to college and then on to higher education without ever having had some valuable time out away from all the pressures of revision and exams. Similarly, many people go through life moving from one job to another once they've finished their education - working their way up the career ladder, but never taking any time out away from the ‘pressure cooker' of everyday life.

While it's obviously important to stay focussed on your education and career, if you never allow your self adequate time out to relax this can definitely have a detrimental effect on your health and general well-being. The average four weeks a year holiday most people receive is all very well, but if you've never taken some proper extended time out from the constant ‘life conveyor belt' of education and subsequent career path then you are really missing out.

An excellent way to take some decent time out is by embarking on a gap year or career break. An ideal opportunity to take an extended period of time out for students is either during the long summer holidays or, if you want to do a full year, either before or after university. Furthermore, universities and colleges nowadays often encourage new students to take some time out before they start a new course. This is because they realise that students returning from a gap year usually greatly benefit from their time out, and generally return feeling re-invigorated by all of their new experiences.

If you missed the chance to take some time out during your student days then it's definitely never too late to do so either. More and more people these days are realising the benefits of taking some time out later in life and are opting to take a career break. The main worry for anyone who's already in the world of work wanting to take some time out is the prospect of giving up a well paid job in order to go travelling. Thankfully, as with educational establishments, an increasing number of employers are acknowledging the fact that many people in this day and age are feeling the need to take some time out. Some employers have started allowing employees who have worked for the company for a certain number of years to take an extended period of un-paid time out as long as they return to their job within a specified period. Civil servants are permitted to take two extended periods of time out during their working career.

Once you have taken the plunge and decided to take gap year or career break time out the next big decision is to decide exactly what to do with your time out. There are some highly rewarding volunteer projects of all types available throughout the globe. Other people prefer to use their time out simply to get stuck in to some serious travelling and ‘see the world.' If you fit in to this category then round the world plane tickets are a great solution to seeing lots of different parts of the world during your time out within a relatively short space of time.

Exactly where you go during an extended period of time out is obviously a matter of personal choice. The most popular gap year destination for travellers is Australia. In Australia it's possible to earn gap year money during your time out by making use of an Australian working holiday visa. Australia is also an attractive country in which to take time out in that it's blessed with a sunny climate, fantastic beaches and some superb sightseeing throughout the country. Other people prefer to take time out, however, by experiencing a totally different culture to their own. If this applies to you then Asia, Africa and Latin America are all great areas in which to explore and take some valuable time out.

Whatever stage in life you are at, taking an extended period of time out has countless benefits - and it's never too late to do so. Where you go and what you do with your time out is all down to personal preference, and you should explore Real Gap's website in order to get inspiration for your gap year time out.
