Why volunteer on the Turtle and Dive Project?
This is an ideal project for people who are interested in diving and turtle conservation, however, it is also perfect for those who wish to learn to dive during their gap year or career break. If you already have a diving qualification, you can advance your skills during this project and take an advanced dive course.

Where do volunteers stay on the Turtle and Dive Project?
You will be staying in a fan room chalet based on 4 people sharing. This is located right next to the beach, in a secluded cove only 400 metres long.

Do I need a visa?
No. You will receive a 90 day tourist visa on arrival.

What will the weather be like?
Malaysia enjoys a tropical climate, with an average temperature of 25C - 30C. The monsoon brings rains to the country from November to February.

How much money should I take?
We advise to budget between £40-50 per week for the Turtle and Dive Project. Whilst you are on the Perhentian Islands there are NO ATM machines. You will need to make sure you have all your spending money for snacks, water taxis should you want to party on Bubu Long Beach etc.  If you want to do a dive course while on the Island you will also need to make sure you take enough money to pay for this on arrival.

Currency
The currency of Malaysia is Ringgits (RM), which consists of 100 sen.
£1 = 6.52 RM
1 RM = 0.15 p

What is the food like?
The food you will have will vary from Western style to Malay cuisine.

What are the bathrooms/toilets like?
While you are staying in hotel or hostel accommodation you will have western style bathrooms. While you are on the Perhentian Islands you will have an en suite Western style bathroom.

What vaccinations do I need?
Remember to visit your doctor at least 6 weeks before departure to make sure you are up to date with all required jabs.

What is the time difference?
Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of the UK.

How do I phone home?
The international telephone access code for Malaysia is 0060. To place an outgoing call, direct dialled international call, dial 00, plus 44 and then the number. For example to call Real Gap Experience call 00 44 1892 516164.
