Volunteer Role
The aim of this work is to offer assistance to needy families, targeting children living on their own with terminally ill parents, or with elderly people and marginalised youth and women.
Your daily role will involve you visiting these families in their villages and making written assessments of their needs.
You may be involved in the following activities:
- Making home visits during the day to rural villages, collecting vital information from extremely vulnerable families
- Creating fundraising proposals, with the use of computers where possible, using templates and good photos you have taken
- Compiling data for those families most at risk and assessing their needs
- Collating the reports and filing them into a good order so that they are easy to translate for the next volunteers
- Developing fundraising ideas and initiatives that the project staff can later use for their international and national contacts for fundraising
- Developing self sufficiency schemes, such as helping families plant seeds for crops to feed their children, or providing goats for milk and meat etc
- Teaching at the local secondary school and nursery schools
- Helping on the vocational skills training project
- Creating ideas and initiatives to develop with the local children. EG: Walking them to school, helping with homework, organising games and interaction activities... just anything to make a difference to the children and make them smile!
