Venezuelan biodiversity is amongst the richest in the world. As a volunteer you will be helping to conserve the stunning La Gran Sabana National Park and bio-reserve whilst bringing environmental education to the local children, and in turn helping to ensure a positive future for this precious ecosystem. Teach them all about the local flora and fauna, the dangers of pollution, and ways to help conserve and improve the environment.

Volunteer Role

As a volunteer you will be working in a beautiful setting, surrounded by an abundance of wildlife including parrots, toucans, monkeys, and butterflies. You will be involved with local people in various conservation projects designed to protect the delicate savannah ecosystem and the cultural identity of the Pemon Indians.

The coordinators and locals will teach you all you need to know about sustainable development and organic practices that are then applied to help with tree growth, the development of medicinal plants, and environmental education.

Duties and activities that you will be involved with include:
  • Tree planting and footpath construction
  • Occasional trash collecting projects inside the La Gran Sabana national park
    Nurturing plant seedlings
  • Maintain the grounds and fruit and vegetable gardens and guide visitors
Assist in setting up and maintaining a tree nursery, a bamboo plantation and a bird sanctuary
  • Teach or assist in programs for environmental education
  • Help with ecological restoration and reforestation
  • Assist building an educational trail for schoolchildren in a nearby rain forest
Help to set up an organic vegetable garden for our therapy and training centre for special need children
  • Help develop a comprehensive species list of the existing wildlife in and around the savannah park and biologic reserve
  • Photograph, record and catalogue as many as possible endemic species of flora and fauna
