Volunteer Role
The project was set up as a way to get this invaluable therapy to children with special needs. Horse riding has been proven to improve balance and coordination in these children as well as muscle tone, making them fitter and therefore healthier. Horse riding does not only have a positive impact physically on the special needs children, it also has a positive mental effect. You will be able to watch the children gain in confidence, bond with the horses and most of all have loads of fun. As a volunteer on this project you will be involved in activities such as:
- Daily maintenance and care of horses
- Assisting in lessons
- Paddock, arena and field shelter maintenance
- Horse care and management classes with kids
- Maintenance of saddlery and equipment
- Maintaining photographic and written records of kid’s progress on a weekly basis
- Riding at the weekends (you can have lessons if you need them)
What’s Included in the Programme
- Transfer from Caracas International airport to bus terminal
- Bus from Caracas to Santa Elena
- Volunteer placement and financial donation
- Accommodation

- Full support and 24 hour back up from our local staff
- Orientation, continual supervision and regular briefings
What’s Not Included in the Programme
- Personal travel insurance for the duration of your placement, which should include cover for repatriation
- All flights
- All items of a personal nature, such as curios, gifts, clothing (work and other)
- E-mail/Internet and telephone calls
- Soft drinks, beer, wines and spirits
- Visas
- Any excursions over and above the planned itinerary in Venezuela
Please note: The project cost only covers your one-way travel and hotel stay down to Santa Elena from Caracas. If you would like to add on a return package (which would cover your return bus ticket, transfers and hotel stay in Caracas), please contact us. This is an additional payment of £120 / 162€.
