Venezuela Teaching Project
With little governmental funding and limited staff, schools rely largely on volunteers to teach the classes. Each programme offers a close insight into the rich and diverse culture of this amazing country, whilst also proving hugely rewarding for the individual. You will also improve your own confidence and conversational skills whilst passing on your skills and knowledge to appreciative listeners!
Volunteer Role
Put to use your energy and creativity and lead conversational English language classes and help with the skills and pronunciation of both children and adults. The structure of the classes will largely be left open, so be as creative as you can! You could incorporate songs, role-plays, and games to help. Classes will be between 6 and 12 pupils, and children at the school are between the ages of 4 and 14. The younger children will be able to pick up English without an accent.
Although one of the main goals is for children to learn English, a valuable vocational skill, there is a wide range of other teaching opportunities available. Duties and activities that you will be involved with include:
- Teaching conversational English classes
- Teaching music at the local music school or assist teaching arts, craft and ceramics
- Helping with computer classes for children and teenagers at the local computer centre with internet-connection
- Teaching sports
- Helping with homework
- Assisting with play therapy or recreational and developmental activities and help organise special events

The area known as La Gran Sabana, "the Great Savannah" is located in the southeastern corner of Venezuela, at the border with Brazil and Guyana. You will be located in the heart of the La Gran Sabana national park in the town of Santa Elena de Uairén.
Accommodation and MealsAccommodation at the project is shared, where you will live with other volunteers and project staff. You will be sharing facilities, although single rooms are available upon request. There is a laundry service. 3 meals a day are included, as well as snacks and refreshments.
