Gap Year BrochureVolunteer in Africa

Volunteer Africa projects are becoming a popular way of spending all or part of a gap year. Volunteer in Africa is particularly appealing to many people in that it is such a vast continent and there is so much diversity in gap year volunteer work.

Africa's size is reflected in the diverse range of volunteer Africa projects on offer there. The opportunity to volunteer in Africa is particularly attractive, of course, to anyone with a love of wildlife. If you volunteer in Africa you can make a very real contribution for future generations. If you enjoy working with people then there are also opportunities to volunteer in Africa on various people-based volunteer projects in South Africa.

Volunteer Africa Options

Our ‘Volunteer in Africa' page takes a look at some of the projects available in order to give you an idea of the type of work you could get involved in.

You can volunteer in Africa on animal conservation projects in several countries.

  • Volunteer in Africa to help on a lion breeding project in South Africa or Zimbabwe.

  • If reptiles are more your scene then think about our African Reptile Park Volunteer project. You will be working closely with the reptiles, ensuring their safety and that they get the best care possible.

  • Maybe you would prefer to work with elephants as a volunteer in Africa. If this is the case then consider the Maasai Elephant Conservation Project. This project is a great opportunity to interact with local people as well as learning field study techniques and elephant conservation.

These can vary from helping people affected by the aids virus and HIV to assisting with building projects.

As with all volunteer Africa projects if you have any specific skills to offer, such as teaching or building for example, then these are always welcome. However, the key quality looked for in anyone who wishes to volunteer in Africa is simply passion and enthusiasm. So, volunteer Africa...
