Volunteer travel is at the very heart of Real Gap. It's what we do best and we're very proud of our projects! We have about 300 volunteer travel projects all over the globe (check them out below) and we challenge you not to find something to whet your whistle!
Why choose volunteer travel as a gap year option?
Volunteer because your time, energy and skills can be of huge benefit to people who don't have even half the advantages you do.
Travel because it's a great opportunity to see new places, learn about new cultures and make new friends.
Volunteer travel because it combines two great experiences. You can travel as you volunteer, or volunteer then travel afterwards!
Travel as you volunteer - Choose a varied programme
Some of our travel programmes are divided into different sections, so you might spend a week, or longer, on a volunteer placement, then spend some time exploring the country. For example, the Everest Expedition lets you trek to base camp, volunteer in a Nepalese village then travel through the jungle.
Travel as you volunteer - Make use of your free time Your volunteer project doesn't have to be all work and no travel! Free time is built into all our volunteer travel programmes and you can make use of this to explore. Ask the co-ordinator about excursions and tips on where to travel - they'll be happy to help.
Volunteer travel - Put your knowledge to good use Lots of gap year students choose to travel more extensively after volunteering in one place for a few weeks. Incorporating volunteer travel this way means you can put what you've learned about the country, including language skills, into practice and get the most out your trip.
