Where do I start?

Ah, the classic question! And one that really depends on how much you've thought about your options already. You see, some people know where they want to visit and what kind of thing they want to do, where as others just know they want to do a bit of travelling.
So, firstly, get yourself a globe/world map/atlas, study it a bit, perhaps have a bit of a read about the places that take your fancy. Think about how much time you have to spare. How much money you have to spend. Maybe jot down a few notes. Alternatively, if you're looking for a particular type of activity to do and you're not really bothered about where you end up doing it…skip straight to the next step!
When you've narrowed your options down from ‘the whole world' to however many number of destinations, its time to think about what kind of thing you want to do…volunteering, sports, adventure etc. For this you should consult the Real Gap website (or get yourself a brochure) to see all your hundreds of options. You can use our search options to either see the options for a particular country or you can see the options for a particular type of activity, say, if you're interested in working with children, teaching English or doing conservation.
Whether you just want to head abroad on a project for a month or your planning a complete round the world voyage, you can always just give us a ring and talk through your thoughts with our experienced travellers and we'll be able recommend projects for you based on your interests, budget, amount of time and so on. We are bound to have something that'll capture your interests!
Once you're all sorted and decided its time to get booked up and start thinking about flights (unless you've booked a complete gap), visas, insurance and all that. If you like, we can help you get that stuff sorted as well. We'll also send you a pre-departure pack that'll give you all sorts of information on your destination(s) and chosen project(s) as well as information on visas, kit to take, how close you are to somewhere with the internet and lots more.
Of course, whenever you have any questions or concerns on anything to do with your trip, give us a ring, we will help you get things sorted.
