Join the Sports Coach South Africa Programme and provide much needed assistance in physical education and general sports teaching. As a sports volunteer you will play a vital role in generating teamwork and harnessing the sporting talents of these enthusiastic children.

Situated between Durban and East London on the East coast of South Africa, this popular sports volunteer programme is based on the under-developed region of the Wild Coast. The area is renowned for having limited education and teaching resources, due to the lack of wealth and investment in the area. Subsequently, children from the region have few opportunities and the problems continue.

The project focuses on working with Rural Community schools. In addition to the Sports Development Programme, there is an IT development project to improve the computer literacy skills of children in the area.

Volunteer Role

You will help to develop new sport's disciplines, teamwork and an understanding of sport etiquette in the schools. In a country such as South Africa, sport offers a means to encourage not only a healthy lifestyle, but also develop necessary social skills and peer understanding that is essential to the stability and well being of society.

Sport also provides an educational forum for the youth through which the issues of HIV/AIDS and STD's can be addressed. This is vital to the continued development of a healthy, sustainable population in South Africa.

Accommodation & Meals

You will be staying in shared accommodation (two to a room) in cottages overlooking a lagoon and beach. This accommodation is part of a Backpackers hostel, with many facilities for you to use at your leisure. Access to canoes, boogie boards and beach accessories will be made available through the resort, as there are many water sports you can become involved with during your free time.

All meals are provided, with packed lunches to take to the project each day. Various diets can be catered for.
