Work in Africa

Africa is a popular destination for many gap year travellers, especially if they have a fascination for wildlife or an interest in the environment. Some people decide that the only way they can truly discover the continent is to do some volunteer work in Africa. Working in Africa can be extremely rewarding and is a way of really getting to know it on a different level from someone who is merely passing through on a tour or on safari.   

There is a diverse range of work in Africa available. There are projects that help African people, and also conservation projects that help protect the unique African environment or contribute to the well-being of many of Africa's endangered species of wildlife. If you work in Africa you can make a genuinely valuable contribution in whatever field of work you choose. The work in Africa involving the preservation of African wildlife and the environment helps to try and ensure that endangered species of animal or plant life remain there for future generations. If you'd prefer to help some of Africa's underprivileged people there are opportunities to work in Africa on various people-based volunteer projects in South Africa.

Conservation work in Africa

You can work in Africa on conservation projects in several countries. We have several projects in South Africa. For example, you can work in Africa helping out at a project lion-breeding in Zimbabwe. If you want to work in Africa with animals, but don't want to work with a variety of animals, then a wildlife conservation programme could be for you. Here you will nurse sick and injured animals, as well as ensure orphaned baby animals survive without their parents.

Work in Africa with people

If you want to work in Africa on a people-based project then we have some really rewarding volunteer opportunities. There is so much volunteer work in Africa to choose from. Our Senegal community volunteer projects are based on the idea of providing voluntary service to disadvantaged people and communities. Or you could work on our Kenya Outreach to children programme which helps care for children who have been orphaned due to their parents dying of AIDS.
