Orientation
Upon arrival you will be given a full orientation about the project over the course of a few days, this will include:
- A volunteer's manual, which will cover information that will help with your involvement with the project
- Introduction to project team
- Briefing about the work areas; including the volunteer house, its surroundings and some of the wildlife species that live nearby
- Introduction to lion and cub enclosures
- Taught how to complete data capture forms and enter data into the computer systems
- Information on the lion breeding programme
- Introduction to the duties you will be involved in
Accommodation and Meals
During your time on the programme, you will be staying at a volunteer lodge in the town of Livingstone. The accommodation is basic but comfortable and designed to meet your needs. The volunteer lodge is shared with other lion project volunteers and you will share a room with up to three volunteers.
You are provided with three meals a day. All meals are cooked by our staff and are served at the volunteer house. The project is able to cater for vegetarians and special diets but please contact us in advance of your departure if you require different foods so that we can notify the project.
Programme Support
Throughout your placement you will have the support and guidance of our experienced project managers. They are part of our great Africa support team, which will provide you with competent 24-hour field support and assistance.
Project Age Limit
Minimum age 18 years, maximum age dependent on participant’s health.
Programme Requirements
Please note there is a minimum height requirement of 5ft or 150cm for safety reasons.
