Zambia Sports and Community Volunteers

Volunteer Role

Working with the local schools in the morning, you will help to teach a range of sports as part of each child's daily instruction. Before the involvement of volunteers, sports received little or no attention in schools, so you will play a major role in the continued physical education of each child.

In the afternoon, you will attend the local community centre/orphanage and help to organise daily games and sporting activities for the orphans. Past volunteers have set up football teams who have played in local leagues.

Popular sports include:

  • Football
  • Netball
  • Athletics
  • Rounders/baseball
  • Volleyball and more

In some cases, these sports and other sports are yet to be introduced, so you can be responsible for bringing a new sport to these children!

Project Highlights

  • Coach very excited and often-talented children in sports and games at local schools and orphanages
  • Coach and facilitate operations at our high-performance academy (football only), to which the most talented children are invited for extra attention and skills development
