Programme Details
You will focus your lessons on teaching English, Science and IT however you are more than welcome to assist in any of the other subjects or activities.
We ask that you bring a creative, enthusiastic and flexible attitude to Stonetown. This not only enables you to become a respected and dedicated volunteer, it also allows you to get as much as you would like from the experience. Many of the schools are very under-funded and lack the many resources you would usually find in Western schools. It is interesting to see just how much the children benefit from having an English speaking teacher helping with their studies.
There are two different schools where you can volunteer:
Sun City Nursery, Primary and Secondary School
The children at Sun City range from four to 16 years old.
Hurumzi Secondary School
The children at Hurumzi are aged from 13 to 18 years old.
Please note: The children that attend the schools are generally either Christian or Muslim. We ask volunteers to respect a more professional code in Zanzibar due to the large Muslim population.
What’s Included in the Programme
- Pick up on arrival
- 1 night arrival accommodation in a hostel in Dar es Salaam
- Ferry transfer from Tanzania to Zanzibar

What’s Not Included in the Programme
- Personal travel insurance for the duration of your placement, which should include cover for repatriation
