We've gotten all rotten...

Nerves of steel? Brave beyond belief? If the thought of ghosts and ghouls sends you into a laughing fit (cheers, Casper...) then it’s time you became acquainted with Real Gap’s activity list of doom*. Ditch the Halloween costumes, and have a look at our terrifying trips. Swimming with white sharks, anyone?

Mozambique Whale Shark Conservation

If the thought of Jaws sent shivers down your spine as a wee nipper, then (duh-na, duh-na, duh-na) this is the real thing! As a part of an epic...

Freaky Festivals

Today's post marks the start of our ever so spooky Halloween week here at the Real Gap office. Ooooooo!

Remember those parties you used to go to when you were five? You donned the witch’s hat, ate too much candy, and probably ran around screaming ‘TRICK OR TREAT’ in people’s ear holes whilst gasping through vampire teeth? Well scrap that (those memories scar us anyway…) and have a look at these freaky festivals from around the world. But beware; if you’re a wuss then this is not for you,...

The Time Has Come...

Hundreds entered, but only a handful succeeded! We don't like to blow our own trumpets here at UYO, but our prize is one heck of a prize, and as expected we had video applications galore begging to be taken on a whirlwind of an adventure around the world. Aus, America, Asia, South Africa- what's not to like?!

The UYO team have now selected the final thirteen (unlucky for some, but extremely so for them!) and it's now the time that we ask you, our adoring public, to submit your vote and in...

What type of Oz traveller are you?

Everyone has to go to Australia once in their life, right? Of course they do and with sights like the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru and Sydney Harbour Bridge at your disposal, why wouldn’t you? One of the main stumbling blocks when it comes to taking the plunge Down Under is money and as the feeble UK Pound isn’t fairing too well against the muscular Aussie Dollar you’re going to need some funds if you’re planning on staying a while.

Getting a job while you’re in Oz is an awesome option and...

Are you ready for Northern India?

There are few places left in the world where travellers can truly experience a complete and utter culture shock but India is surely up there with the best of them. Traditional, mystical, unique, exciting: if you’re looking to really get away from the grey UK then set your camera to stun and head for one of the most colourful and vibrant countries on the planet.

For starters: If you can tear yourself away from the beaches of Goa then you’ll discover a rich variety of locations, further...

Traveller Tales - Nina's India Experience

As I stepped out of the airport into the thick Indian air, I was immediately covered in sweat, even though it was six in the morning. I was met by my RealGap representative, Amit, who was going to be my guide for the next month. We shook hands and he was very polite, as I would soon find out, most Indians are. He took my bags, loaded them into the car and we were off, into the bustling streets and crazy traffic of Delhi. Swerving between tuk tuks, mopeds and cows trying to cross the street;...

Look at the size of that fin!

‘Look at the size of that fin!’

These are words that most people probably wouldn’t want to hear. Especially when they’re anywhere near the ocean. Even more so when they’re just about to jump in.

The follow up didn’t inspire much confidence either…

‘That’s a Tiger shark for sure…and a big one!’

Great…

I was on a dive boat on the Great Barrier Reef finishing off my PADI Rescue Diver course. We’d all been having a great time swimming with the fishies, trying to find Nemo and his aquatic chums and...

Totally Trans-Siberian

Ten nights on a train with no shower, dwindling cheese supplies and a hole in the ground for a toilet, it was, a totally Trans-Siberian experience.

Me and a couple of mates boarded at Waterloo and with one final beer we waved goodbye to London as our lovely, modern train took us through Brussels and onwards to Moscow and the start of one of the world’s fiercest train routes, the Trans-Siberian.

We knew that by the time we finished our journey we’d have covered almost 6000 miles of track and...

Bangkok Bustle

Quick flight from Heathrow, catch a few zeds on route and before you know it, boom, you’re in Bangkok!

But this is what you signed up for, right? And bravely you find your way past the hawkers, gawkers and squawkers as your adventure begins and your Thailand experience begins to take root.

Of course, getting into...

The South Africa Feeling

Travel advisor Tom describes his time on the South Africa Experience

The worst part of any trip is the end.  The waiting-for-the-plane (2 hours delayed); the murky cold weather on return home; ‘real life’. But it’s not really because of our loathing of day-to-day life that we want more time (come on, life isn’t all that bad!) – it’s because we always want one more day on our adventure.  Be it beaches, bars and cocktails; bushland, wildlife and locals; friends, laughter and memories – we...
