Days 25-28 Inca Trail/ Machu Picchu/ Cusco
Walk through dense cloud forests and past ancient ruins on an awe-inspiring Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu.
The trail is within the abilities of most reasonably fit people, but do come prepared: the trail is 45km (28 miles) long and often steep. Generally the days consist of 7 hours walking on average (both uphill and downhill), plus stops for snacks and lunch. Normally trekking starts at 7am and you reach the campsite around 4-5pm. There is always the possibility of rain, even in the dry season and temperatures may fall below freezing at night. The trail traverses three passes, the highest being 4,200m (13,779ft).
Please note: You require an Inca Trail permit to be able to access the Inca Trail on Days 25 to 27. Inca Trail permits are sold on request basis only. Once you have provided us with your deposit and passport details, we will endeavour to secure a permit for you. If Inca Trail permits are unavailable by the time you book, you can opt to hike the Inca Quarry Trail instead which still takes you to Machu Picchu using an alternative route.
Please note that all Inca Trail permits have now been sold for hikes starting before October 2012, therefore if you wish to travel before this you will be hiking the Quarry Trail Instead.
The Inca Trail closes in February to allow cleaning and restoration works, therefore we do not offer the Inca Trail during this time period.

Day 33 Copacabana
Cross the border from Peru to Copacabana in Bolivia where you have the option to hire a pedal boat, visit the Island of the Sun or hike to the top of Cerro Calvario and watch the sunset over town.
Days 34-36 La Paz
Travel by local bus to La Paz. At around 3,600 m, La Paz feels like the top of the world. It's not far from it and vies with Tibet for the title of highest capital in the world. Although Sucre is the official capital of Bolivia, La Paz is the centre of commerce, finance and industry. Despite the abundance of colonial architecture, La Paz's indigenous roots run deep, and the atmosphere in the market-filled streets is both modern and traditional.
La Paz is renowned for its many markets, including the Mercado de Hechiceria or Witches' Market. Browse through the weird and wonderful stalls which sell everything from potions to incantations made from herbs, seeds and unidentified bits and pieces to cure any ailment. Your Peru and Ecuador Adventure tour ends on Day 36 in La Paz.

You will spend a total of 27 nights in basic hotels, 2 nights at a jungle lodge, 3 nights camping, 1 night at a home stay and 2 nights on an overnight coach.
Accommodation is on a twin/ multi-share basis. Please note there may be times when you share a room with passengers travelling on different adventure trips than your own.
Some of the accommodation along the way is very basic, staying in local guesthouses and home stays with limited facilities. Some facilities are shared and some accommodation has cold water only. Multi-share includes triple and quad rooms or even dorm rooms.
While travelling with us you will experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest favourite restaurants during your trip. On our camping trips we often cook the region's specialties so you don't miss out. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company.
All meals are included while at the jungle lodge, when hiking the Inca Trail and at homestay in Lake Titicaca. We recommend that you allow USD $650 for meals not included.
Travellers need to be in good physical health in order to participate fully in this group travel experience.
For the trek on this trip the general rule is you will need to be fit and the more preparation you have done for it, the more you will enjoy it. You will be walking with your day pack, with the possibility of extreme variations in
temperature.
On day 2 of the Inca Trail you will be walking uphill from 3000 to 4200 metres above sea level before descending steeply through big steps and difficult terrain. While this challenging walk is the main difficulty our passengers face on this trip, it is also one of the highlights and worth every minute of it. We recommend that you undertake regular aerobic exercise in the months before you travel, particularly if you are not in the habit of regular exercise. Doing mountain walks or climbing long staircases with a pack is good preparation. Walking, jogging, swimming or riding a bike are all good ways to increase your aerobic fitness, which will allow you to enjoy the trek to its fullest.
Throughout your programmes you will have the support and guidance of the programme co-ordinator and team. You will be provided with competent assistance and help with any questions or advice you may need during your stay.
You will be assigned a personal travel advisor who will co-ordinate your programme with you. Feel free to contact them at any time before you go, or when you are on your travels.

I've done this trip
Write reviewMost invigorating, enjoyable and memorable five weeks of my life!
Amazon, Inca Trail (though tough) but mostly just great times with the others in my group!
1) You will need more money than you think to take full advantage of the activities, even being very strict with yourself along the way. 2) Write some sort of journal or diary, it is so easy to forget things when you're doing so much. 3) Wherever you are, aways have: toilet paper, suncream and water (and maybe some immodium to be safe)
I would have preferred to spend longer at each destination and visit less, however I understand this is difficult due to travel time between places.
I Loved Everyone On My Tour And Couldn't Have Asked For Anyone Better, However A Little More Information About The Average Age Etc Of Travellers Before The Beginning Of The Tour Would Be Nice :)
