Destination info

Thailand is just a beautiful country – outstanding natural gorgeousness, impressive architecture, eye-catching temples, lovely, friendly people and just the best Thai food you ever ate and a lot cheaper than over here.

You will be spending your time as a volunteer in Sangklaburi is in NW Thailand on the border with Myanmar (Burma). Sangklaburi is positioned on a 72 km long manmade lake fed by the numerous local rivers and waterfalls. The town is surrounded by mountains and creates a picturesque landscape, an idyllic location for travellers and volunteers.

  • Location: Sangklaburi, NW Thailand

During this programme, you will have the opportunity to teach English mainly in primary schools and you may have th opportunity to teach at secondary schools, as well as teaching children with special needs (the latter two options are available on request only and you will need qualifications). Unlike schools in the Western world, there are no special classes for children with learning difficulties, so helping these children may prove a challenge at first however the rewards are clear and worthwhile.

Your time in Sangkhlaburi will give rural Thai children the opportunity to learn English with a native speaker. Tourism is the dominant industry in Thailand and most international companies with operations in Thailand expect a competence in both written and spoken English, so by offering your teaching assistance you are enabling the children a brighter and gainful future.

Your typical week will consist of volunteering Monday to Friday with a free weekend to relax or travel. On your work days you will be picked up from your accommodation around 8am and taken to the school. You will be returned to your accommodation at the end of each day, usually around 3-4pm. Our project coordinators will work alongside you throughout your day to answer any questions that you may have and to help you organise your day. All of our coordinators have experience helping our volunteer teachers to organise daily schedules and with lesson planning.
