When is the best time to take a gap year?

|
Is it a good idea to take a gap year before or after school/Uni/college?
At Real Gap we think any travelling is a good idea, but we do understand why you're concerned but there is really nothing to worry about. At all.
Universities actively encourage prospective students to take a Gap Year after having up to 14 years straight in education, as long as it is organised and well-structured. It's for this reason that you are able to defer entry for a year before you start your course.
The universities' think that students who have taken a Gap Year are more motivated and are more likely to knuckle down and work hard on their degree/course and even have a better and more mature outlook on life. Whether that is the case or not most educational institutions will not be bothered in the slightest if you decide to head abroad for a year before entering into education again.
Employers are very keen on candidates who have travelled (again it needs to have been organised and well-structured), as they believe them to be more mature, more motivated, well rounded and resourceful. Travelling means that you have an international perspective, can take on a challenge, work in a team (especially if you volunteer), assess risks and think under pressure.
Doing volunteering also looks great on a CV and will open all sorts of employment doors for you. If you are already in a career and feel like you need some time to do something different, go and talk to your boss, if you don't ask, you don't get and many companies do support the travelling break thing - its said that you'll come back with your batteries recharged with new skills and a new sense of…something.
Also, if you are just out of Uni then it gives you the chance to take yourself away from the pressures of thinking about your career and lets you really think about what you want to do with yourself in the future.
