Gap year Zanzibar

Zanzibar may be small but it makes an excellently chilled gap year destination. Europeans called this island group off the coast of Tanzania the Spice Islands and spice production is still a main industry. There are plantations devoted to cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, alongside deep-green forests, ruined palaces and a coast lined with gorgeous beaches looking out to the blue Indian Ocean. It’s a serious paradise.
