Trip Info

Whether you start your journey in Sydney or Cairns, you’ll be covering a whopping 3,150km as you travel along the beautiful east coast. You’ll have the freedom to explore and discover Australia at your own pace – being able to hop off whenever the bus stops, either to make a connecting journey further up the route, or to stay in each destination for as long or as short a time as you like, and then simply hop back on when you fancy a change of scene – you make the rules.

One thing’s for sure though; you’ll be hitting the road in total comfort with a top-spec Greyhound bus, which comes complete with live GPS tracking so you know exactly where you are every step of the way, panoramic windows to take in the breathtaking views on route, reclining leather seats for total comfort, USB chargers in every seat, on-board bathroom, and air-conditioning – well, because apparently Australia does get pretty warm...

Sydney: Arguably Australia’s most famous city, Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and one of the largest cities in the country. With so much to see and do here, don’t make the mistake of excitedly jumping on your bus before you’ve had a chance to explore! Some of the top attractions to tick off your list might include: Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach, the Botanic Gardens, the Royal National Park, and the Blue Mountains.

Cairns: At the top of the east coast, Cairns is a busy city but with a distinctly chilled out vibe. Steeped in indigenous culture and surrounded by mountains, rainforest and beaches, this is a city like no other, and provides a natural gateway to the famous Great Barrier Reef. Don’t forget to do the following while you’re there: go on a rainforest trek through the Daintree, go white-water rafting on the Tully River, peruse the colourful stalls at Holloway Beach Market, discover Aborigine traditions at Tjapukai Cultural Park, and definitely go and snorkel or scuba at the Great Barrier Reef.

Popular stop offs on the way:

Port Macquarie – a gorgeous coastal town dotted with secluded sandy bays made for sunset viewing.

Byron Bay – a cool Bohemian town littered with artisan shops and eateries, surrounded by rainforest that runs right up to the beach edge.

Gold Coast – think long sandy beaches, awesome surfing spots, and stunning national park scenery amid theme parks and a vibrant city centre.

Brisbane – the capital of Queensland, Brisbane is a classy and contemporary city drenched in museums, art galleries, and exhibition centres.

Noosa – for breathtaking scenery and long, expansive beaches, Noosa is popular with nature lovers and surfers alike.

Airlie Beach – the perfect spot to let your hair down and enjoy the nightlife, as well as gaining easy access to the Whitsunday Islands.

Good to know

You can travel anywhere on the Greyhound network during your journey, as long as you’re travelling in the same direction consistently. Your ticket is valid from the first day of travel, and will expire six months from that date. Your pass is non-refundable you can’t transfer your pass to anyone else.
