Ben and Harriet's Thailand Adventure - Day 3!

By Gap 360

Last updated: 17th March 2013

Over the past few weeks, a few members of the Gap 360 team have been jetting off to some of our epic locations in South East Asia to check out our projects and experiences. Now's the time for Ben and Harriet to conquer Thailand. They're going to be travelling around and trying all things Thai for the next two weeks so expect updates galore from the troublesome twosome!

Day 3

Hi, it's Ben again! Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Bangkok on Thursday- so here's a catch up of what we got up to on the next step of our adventure...

After leaving our time in Bangkok behind us (sob...) we started to head awesome Kanchanaburi to meet some of the Thai Adventure group, the lovely lot who came out here on the 8th March. We woke up at 11am after having a very heavy night- we were both feeling the pain but we had a 3 hour journey to kick back and relax so it was all good!

We jumped on a tuk tuk to victory monument (which took about 30 mins due to traffic but only cost 200THB which was amazing value!)- and to be honest, we needed the wind to blow away the cob webs and wake us up! We quickly found our minivan which was due to take us to Kanchanaburi (there were loads but a kind local helped us out) and luckily the van had the air con whacked on high- so we were in heaven! We only paid 130 THB each for a 3 hour journey too, bargain! We arrived in kanchanaburi around 3:30 and were met by one of the Thailand Exp tour group leaders; her name was Jib (beautiful looking, heart of gold, her mum was there too!) and we were made to feel so welcome.

We were taken to our hotel 'Noble Heights' which was lovely, and ended up being our home for two nights. We chilled out for an hour or so and then met Jib who took us to Thai Thai- a restaurant where all the Gap 360-ers go on their first night - GREAT FOOD and this time even cheaper that Bangkok! We paid around 300THB for 2 mains and 2 starters and 2 bottle of Chang, ace!

After dinner Jib took us to the night market which sold everything, and at ridiculously low prices too. I bought some fisherman wraps round trouser for 99 THB, which is less than £2 and perfect for the weather! After we shopped until we (basically) dropped we met up with the Thailand Exp crew again to properly introduce ourselves. There are currently 36 girls and guys on this trip and we spoke to a handful whilst they were having their dinner in Thai Thai and they have all had an amazing time so far! They had had a pretty heavy night the night before so were all drinking water and being pretty good, I'm not sure how long that will last as we are meeting them again this evening in Sugar bar! Sugar bar is owned and run by a Thai lady called Sugar (funny that...), the music is great, the seating is a mix of chill out scatter cushion and tables and its right in the middle of the strip of kanchanaburi which is awesome! The bar opposite Sugar is SO CHEAP too- every drink is 10THB which is just crazy and would give anyone a cracking cheap night!

Harriet's already written the post for day 4- so watch out for a follow up ASAP!
