Explore the wilds of Namibia and South Africa on this incredible 14-day tour. Travel with a group and guide and take in the best these countries have to offer, from the enchanting plains of Etosha National Park to the vast deserts of the Namib.

You’ll enjoy game drives in Etosha, where you’ll have the chance to try and spot lions, elephants and giraffes drinking from watering holes. You’ll uncover pre-historic life in Damaraland and spectacular windswept landscapes in Spitzkoppe. After a night in the Namib Desert, you’ll plunge south into South Africa and enjoy a dip in the Orange River as well as a jaw-dropping sunset at mighty Fish River Canyon. This 14-day tour is the ultimate way to experience the untamed wilds of Africa!

Trip Info

Day 1: Windhoek

Welcome to Namibia! Arrive into the capital, Windhoek, and make your own way to your accommodation. You’ll meet the rest of your group at an evening welcome meeting. Get to know your new travelling mates with a drink or two in the city. Your adventure begins properly tomorrow!

Day 2: Windhoek to Etosha National Park

This morning you’ll leave the city streets of Windhoek behind and venture into the wilds of Namibia. Your destination is beautiful Etosha National Park, a vast landscape of orange plains and shimmering watering holes and home to the incredible Etosha Salt Pan, which covers nearly a quarter of the park. Sit back, relax and enjoy the journey through the Namibian countryside. You’ll arrive late afternoon.

Spend the rest of the day relaxing or keeping an eye out for any wandering wildlife. Why not join a 4x4 safari and head out in search of the park’s best-kept secrets (extra cost: 550NAD). Breakfast and lunch included.

Day 3: Etosha National Park

You’ll enjoy a real treat today: a full-day game drive through stunning Etosha. Over 100 species of animal make Etosha their home, including lions, elephants, giraffes and zebra. Stop off by the park’s many watering holes to glimpse wildebeest taking a drink, or watch pelicans and flamingos picking their way across the dramatic salt pan. It’s a wildlife-lovers dream! Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 4: Etosha National Park to Damaraland

As the sun comes up, enjoy a morning drive through the park, ticking off any unseen animals and then hit the open road once more as you travel on to Damaraland. Opt to step back in time with a visit to some prehistoric rock engravings at Twyfelfontein (extra cost: 70NAD). Local Bushmen made these sketches of hunters and animals over 5,000 years ago. Marvel at the 2,500 rock carvings as you wander this incredible site.Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 5: Damaraland to Spitzkoppe

Today you’ll visit the Damaraland Living Museum and discover the history of the Damara people, one of the oldest nations in Namibia. You’ll learn about their authentic way of life and even see some traditional dancing!

Then it’s back on the road to Spitzkoppe, amagical landscape of twisting rock structures and soaring mountain peaks.Head out for some nighttime exploration on foot. Don’t forget to look up - there’s a thick blanket of stars above! Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 6-7: Spitzkoppe to Swakopmund

The road will take you east today towards the coastal city of Swakopmund. This adrenaline-pumping city is full of awesome activities, including skydiving, sandboarding and quad biking. You’ll enjoy two nights here, so make the most of everything on offer. If you’re less of an adrenaline junkie, check out the local cultural tour, during which you’ll learn to ‘click’ in the local language and try out a local delicacy – Mopani worms washed down with a drink! All activities in Swakopmund are at extra cost. Breakfast and lunch included on day 6.

Day 8: Swakopmund to Namib Desert

Leave the adrenaline thrills behind and venture into the breath-taking Namib Desert. En route, you’ll stop off at Sesriem Canyon. The Tsauchab River flows through this deep gorge just once every five or ten years, creating the gleaming white salt and clay pan of Sossusvlei, which you’ll visit tomorrow. Tonight, you’ll be camping on the edge of the desert under African stars. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 9: Namib Desert

Plunge into the desert itself this morning with a short drive to Sossusvlei. Wander among towering red sand dunes, and climb the iconic Dune 45, a mighty dune with panoramic views of the orange and yellow sands of the Namib. Opt to take a guided tour of the Sossusvlei salt and clay pan with a local guide (extra cost: 10NAD). Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 10: Namib Desert to Fish River Canyon

Journey south to Fish River Canyon, Africa’s largest canyon. With views that rival the USA’s Grand Canyon, you’ll want to have your camera handy today! Spend some time on the rim staring out at the deep grooves and waiting for a spectacular orange sunset. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 11: Fish River Canyon to Orange River

You’ll be hopping across the border into South Africa today, your second country of the trip! Your group will set up camp on the banks of the gorgeous Orange River, where you can slip into the waters for a swim, or even hire a canoe and glide along the South African/Namibian border (extra cost: 350ZAR). Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 12: Orange River to Cederberg

Drop south through the Western Cape and arrive at the rocky slopes of the Cederberg Mountains. You’ll be camping on a local farm, where you can relax and sample some local wine, or explore the surrounding hillsides. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 13: Cederberg to Cape Town

Arrive into the buzzing streets of Cape Town. Wander the vibrant shops and bars, visit the District Six Museum (extra cost) and bask in the mighty sight of Table Mountain. It’s your final night with your group, so celebrate with an optional night out. Make sure to exchange contact details so you can keep in touch once the tour is over! Breakfast and lunch included.

Day 14: Cape Town

Your wonderful overland tour of Africa has come to an end! Spend a final morning with your group and then head off to the airport for your flight home. Your guide will help you with your onward travel plans so you’ll have a smooth journey! Breakfast included.

Namibia flights

You’ll need to make your own way to our Windhoek meeting point on the start date of this tour. Our welcome meeting and briefing normally begins at around 6pm, though you may want to arrive earlier in order to have some time to explore. An airport pick up and transfer is not included as part of this trip. The trip finishes in Cape Town on your programme end date which is day 14 of the trip; no activities are planned on this day so you are free to depart at any time.
