Trip Info

Day 1: Arrival

Welcome to Thailand! You’ll be met at Bangkok Airport by our friendly team, who will take you to your accommodation near Khao San Road. Once you’ve settled in, you’ll get the chance to mingle with the rest of the group and, if you arrive early enough, will have the opportunity to explore the bustling streets and colourful markets before heading out for a few drinks and some traditional Thai food in the evening.

Day 2: Bangkok

After breakfast the group will get together at 10am to discuss the day’s events. You’ll be going on a magical mystery tour of Bangkok, kicking things off with a laidback canal boat trip to discover some of Thailand’s history. You’ll also get a glimpse into the lives of some of Bangkok’s more traditional communities before a trip to see some of the most iconic temples in the region.

We’ll head to Wat Arun to stand at the foot of the porcelain tower, before making our way to Wat Pho to pay our respects to Bangkok’s famous golden reclining Buddha. Later on we’ll take a tour of the majestic Grand Palace and the beautiful grounds that surround it (please note the entrance fee to the Grand Palace isn’t included in the price of your trip – this costs roughly 500THB/£12). In the evening we’ll hop on a coach for an overnight journey to Koh Tao.

Day 3: Koh Tao

Arriving on the idyllic tropical island of Koh Tao, we’ll head straight to our accommodation to get settled in and beach-ready, as today you’ll be taking it easy shore-side. Grab your swimming gear, take a dip in the bright blue waters, then chill under the palms with a cocktail or cold beer. If you’re feeling inquisitive, you could take a wander to explore the typically busy, but laidback streets in the town centre, but there’s no rush to see everything today – you’ll be calling Koh Tao home for the next few days, so relax and soak up some sunshine.

Day 4-6: Koh Tao

If it’s beaches you’re after, Koh Tao will spoil you with choice offering some of the best pristine white sand bays and coves in the country. While away your time with a front row seat to paradise, go and explore the rocky caves by kayak, hike through the forested terrain for the best views of the surrounding islands, or take a boat trip to see every nook and cranny of this beautiful place from the sea. On day 5 you’ll get to discover the island’s amazing marine life on a snorkelling trip that will leave you speechless. In the evenings, we’ll get together to discuss the day’s events before hitting the town to enjoy the brilliant party atmosphere.

Day 7: Koh Pha Ngan

Today we’ll be hopping on a boat to Thailand’s party isle – Koh Pha Ngan. Known the world over for its epic Full Moon parties, you can expect a lively atmosphere as we get geared up for one of the island’s Full Moon, Black Moon, or New Year’s parties (depending on the time of year). Our accommodation for the next few days is in a great location on the beach and comes with its own pool – the perfect place to unwind in or plot daytime explorations from.

Day 8-9: Free time on Koh Pha Ngan

The next couple of days are all yours to take in island life at your own pace. Besides beach parties and buzzing nightlife, Koh Pha Ngan is known for its natural beauty, covered in vast jungle greenery and dotted with secluded beaches. Go and see some traditional Chinese architecture at the Guanyin Temple, visit the temple grounds and have a herbal sauna session at Wat Pho, or dip your toes in the cool waters of Nam Tok Phaeng waterfall. In the evenings, enjoy a sunset swim, a bite to eat on the beach, or peruse the bustling night markets before partying under the stars.

Day 10: Bid goodbye or travel on

For those of you booked onto the 10-day tour, you’ll say goodbye to your group here on the islands. Speak to your guide beforehand about your plans and they’ll help you make arrangements for onward travels.

If you’ve selected the Koh Phi Phi extension, you’ll have the morning to relax before boarding a boat to Koh Samui – a serene and tranquil setting even the most hungover travellers will appreciate! Lay back and chill on the beach this afternoon, and recharge before heading out in the evening to mingle with the locals and fellow globetrotters.

Day 11: Koh Samui

Today you’ll have the opportunity to get out and explore as you wish – whether that’s not exploring at all and simply spending some time soaking up some sunshine, or indulging in a little retail therapy, or going all out and trekking through Ang Thong National Park, whizzing through the rainforest on a zipline tour, or visiting some of Koh Samui’s most spiritual sites including the Big Buddha and Wat Plai Laem. Your guide will be able to suggest activities and how to plan your day.

Day 12: Koh Phi Phi

Setting off from Koh Samui in the morning, we’ll jump on a ferry back to the mainland before driving to Thailand’s west coast and jumping on another ferry to the Koh Phi Phi islands. Undisputedly beautiful, you’ll be forgiven for needing to pinch yourself constantly over the next few days – Thailand really is home to so many breathtaking views. On arrival we’ll make our way to our accommodation and get settled before enjoying a laidback evening.

Day 13-14: Discover Koh Phi Phi

Spend the next couple of days sightseeing and topping up your tan. Koh Phi Phi is notoriously chilled out, so go with the flow and take everything in your stride. It’s worth putting some time aside to scale the scenic winding paths up to Phi Phi viewpoint for stunning views across the island, taking a trip to Monkey Beach to feed the cheeky locals, and heading over to Maya Beach – made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio film, The Beach. If you’re up for something a bit more energetic, spend some time snorkelling, kayaking, or touring the island by boat.

Day 15: Farewell

It’s very likely you won’t want to leave, but today we do have to part company as this fantastic tour comes to an end. Having said your goodbyes, you’ll make your own way back to Bangkok from Koh Phi Phi by coach or internal flight, which your guide will be more than happy to help you arrange.

Please note activities and itineraries are subject to change.

What were the highlights of your trip?

Visiting the islands, in particular Koh Samui which was lovely. Also the day trip to Ang Thong Marine Park that included kayaking and snorkeling which happened to be scheduled on my birthday and made for a memorable day. The additional trip to Koh Tao which we were able to do was great and being able to spend time at Nang Yuan Island was incredible

Is there anything else you would have liked to have added to your itinerary?

It would have been nice to go to the floating markets in Bangkok and to the night market in Koh Phangan

Tips for other travellers?

Be open to new experiences, don't take too much clothing as you can always buy stuff out there relatively cheaply, get a Thai foot massage - amazing!

Any other comments?

It was an incredible trip and we had a great tour leader in the form of Chai who really went above and beyond for the group such as organising additional trips for us and helping us with our arrangements at the end of the tour

What were the highlights of your trip?

Everything! This trip has it all, culture, beaches, beautiful scenery, fantastic food, parties (full moon was amazing) and our tour guide Jj was so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.

Is there anything else you would have liked to have added to your itinerary?

Everything was well organised and ran smoothly, the only thing we missed out on was the boat trip around the marine park (due to freak bad weather) which was disappointing but couldn't be helped. However the tour company sorted us out with a different indoor activity instead which was nice.

Tips for other travellers?

1. Don't be afraid to go alone, you will meet new people and have an amazing time! 2. Do any extra trips suggested by tour guides...things are fairly cheap here too so make the most of shopping / excursions / beach massage. 3. Try the traditional Thai food as it's lovely. (A sneaky extra tip) 4. If you can, book a few extra days/weeks at the end of the trip...you won't want to go home!

What were the highlights of your trip?

JJ was the perfect guide, passionate about his country, very helpful, great sense of humour and made our trip really memorable. Highlights for us were exploring Bangkok and the Full moon party was amazing.

Tips for other travellers?

Take enough money so you can experience everything, food and drink does add up especially Western food. Mosquitos are only bad at dusk onwards, worse in Bangkok than islands, no need for repellent in the day anywhere Sickness pills recommended for boat to Samui, one of us thought we were going to die!

Any other comments?

One of us was a little apprehensive before going and unsure what to expect but as soon as we arrived, we realised there was nothing to worry about and can recommend these trips to everyone

What were the highlights of your trip?

How to choose a highlight from such an amazing trip?! #1. Our tour guide; JJ. If you are lucky enough to be assigned JJ as your guide I can gunantee you will have the time of your life! He has a heart of gold and could not be more passionate about creating the ulitmate experience for you and your tour group. He is the reason for my high rating of Real Gap. #2. FOOD; the Thai food was unreal! It is so sad to see so many western food outlets popping up in Thailand, I'd suggest trying the small family run food options as they will give you the true taste. ( Our guide showed us the very best places) #3. Day trips; whilst on the Islands there are some options for day tripping- DO IT. Our best days were those spent in small boats, learning to cook and snorkeling.

Tips for other travellers?

#1. GET JJ- if you have JJ as your guide you'll have the best time! #2. Be open to new things; don't give your nation a bad reputation. Be open minded and respectful of the culture. #3. Throw yourself in- who remembers that day you saved 20 quid when you stayed in. GO FOR IT and don't think too much!

What were the highlights of your trip?

The main highlight of the trip was definitely 100% the tour guide: JJ!!!!! What a fantastic guide, teaching us the Thai culture, sharing with us some of his favourite places, encouraging us to do things we wouldn't normally and fully embrace the experience, always trying to better himself as well and learn as much English as possible to make the trip even better for us lazy people who only speak English. Was so amazing to meet such a fun loving, genuine guy who really cares about his job. He was always explaining the history of Thailand to us, and nothing we asked was too much. Even on our free days he would advise what to do or ask us what we wanted to do and find out the best way to do it, ensuring we weren't getting ripped off for being tourists too. By the end of the trip he was a friend, not just a tour guide. If all the other tour guides are half as passionate and determined as JJ then real gap are on to some real winners. Another highlight was the food. I'm so so sad to be home and not eating delicious Thai!

Is there anything else you would have liked to have added to your itinerary?

No.

Tips for other travellers?

1-travel light, you only wear half of what you take and are just carrying around loads of stuff for no reason. 2-mosquitos like you, take repellent 3-just say yes

What were the highlights of your trip?

It was all pretty amazing to be honest but it was our tour guide JJ who made it complete! JJ was awesome guy who loved his country so he made sure we experience the REAL Thailand! We learned about the culture first hand and had such a laugh doing so. He never hindered what we wanted to do but always made sure we were safe. Thailand is an amazing country who I would recommend to anyone from all walks of life! Culture, food and activities were all perfect. I met some great people who I'm now proud to call my friends (including JJ) - I will be definitely keeping in touch with these guys who I shared an unforgettable experience with.

Is there anything else you would have liked to have added to your itinerary?

Not that I can think of!

Tips for other travellers?

1. Don't worry if you're travelling alone - I would say it's the best way as your experience isn't restricted and you don't have to compromise on your experience. 2. Don't buy souvenirs straight away, hold off to the end of your tip or go to markets where you can get stuff for 1/4 of the price that you normally see. 3. Smile - it goes a long way :)

Any other comments?

What were the highlights of your trip?

There's were so many highlights! First of all the country of Thailand. Beautiful, peaceful and a different adventure everyday. Whether we were shopping in Bangkok or kiaking around the island of Koh Samui plus many many other activities and experiences that took place whilst we were there I loved every minute of it. Secondly learning about the culture and understanding the people of Thailand, there beliefs and how there everyday life seems to always a happy day. We met many different faces of the native Thai people and not one person was miserable or made you unhappy, which was so refreshing to experience. Finally the people who started off as strangers on day one of the trip and ended up as friends that I will never forget. The experience of traveling Thailand built strong bonds of friendship between us all. But I cannot finish without forgetting the two tour guides who made the experience amazing. Chai and Wit were professional, knowledgable and the friendliest guys I've ever met. Not only did the trip run so smooth and well, the guys would bend over backwards for you to make sure all of us were happy, I couldn't thank them both enough before we left. They are a credit to RealGap and to Thailand.

Is there anything else you would have liked to have added to your itinerary?

The amount of activities we squeezed into ten days was unbelievable. We had time to tour Bangkok, Koh Samui, Koh phagan and manage to have free time and relax in the gorgeous Thai climate. So for what I saw and experienced in the ten days was amazing. If I had more time on my hands to join on the Thailand experience the RealGap offer, I would of loved to of seen Koh phi phi and Phuket. But I think the Bangkok to beaches is just perfect the way the itinerary is.

Tips for other travellers?

Tip number one is to not worry about traveling alone, you make so many friends out there and laugh everyday regardless of what your doing. The trip its self brings people together, so if making friends is not your strong point then don't worry because the adventure into Thailand brings you together with everyone. Tip number two would be to give everything a go out there. Some things on the trip to Thailand can only be done over there. Whether it be trying real Thai made food, a Thai foot massage or riding on the back of an Asian elephant, all of those things are unforgettable and something you can't do back home in the UK. Tip number three would just be to enjoy yourself out there. Thailand is a very long way from home and there may be sometimes you may feel homesick. But stick it in with the group of people that are experiencing everything in Thailand for the first time too and you will guaranteed make amazing friends and create memories you'll never forget.

Any other comments?

I thought the value for money for Bangkok to beaches was incredible. The activities that I did were worth every penny. And again I have to say that chai and wit our tour guides for the trip were out of this world. All of the group who had the pleasure to meet and even become great friends with chai and wit all know that our first trip to Thailand was made incredible by the great job that chai and wit did for us. Thank you RealGap for the amazing trip you offered I would recommend it to anyone thinking to go and I am so excited to book another adventure with RealGap to discover for myself another amazing journey in the future.
