Day 1: Negombo. Welcome to Sri Lanka! One of our local team members will meet you from the airport and take you to your boutique beachfront hotel in Negombo. Meet your guide and group this evening for a welcome dinner and drinks.

Day 2: Sigiriya. Head inland today. Our first stop is the Dambulla Cave Temple. Cut into the rock face, this temple is home to around 150 Buddha statues and paintings. Next up it’s the Gold Buddha, a giant hilltop statue overlooking the town. We’ll rest our heads in Sigiriya tonight.

Day 3: Sigiriya. Rise with the sun to climb Sigiriya Rock. Be prepared to climb the 1,200 steps to the top of the rock but trust us the views of the stunning landscapes are worth it! We’ll explore the town this afternoon before an authentic Sri Lankan meal in a local farming village.

Day 4: Kandy. We’ll travel to colourful Kandy today to take in its colonial architecture, beautiful lake and the Temple of the Tooth, home to Sri Lanka’s most important relic – a tooth from Buddha himself! Explore the temple before watching the sun go down over the Lake.

Day 5: Ella. This morning’s stop is a tea plantation, where we’ll learn all about the process from leaf to cup. Then we’ll visit a cooking school to learn how to make some authentic Sri Lankan dishes before taking one of the most beautiful train rides in the world, to the chilled-out town of Ella.

Day 6: Ella. It’s an early start again as we climb Little Adam’s Peak. The views from the top are out-of-this-world. This afternoon we’ll visit the magnificent Nine Arch Bridge to walk the tracks and watch the train pass through.

Day 7: Udawalawe National Park. Start the day with a refreshing dip in a local waterfall before travelling to Udawalawe National Park. We’ll be spending the night in a glamping resort where you’ll feel close to nature without sacrificing any creature comforts.

Day 8: Unawatuna. Hop into your jeep ready for this morning’s safari in Udawalawe. Keep your eyes peeled for buffalo, jackals, macaques, langurs, leopards and of course, wild elephants. Then travel on to the gorgeous beachside town of Unawatuna.

Day 9: Unawatuna. Make the most of your last day in paradise with a dip in the pool and a stroll on the sand. Join the group this afternoon for a walk through the jungle to yet another beautiful beach. Then enjoy a farewell dinner and drinks with your travel family.

Day 10: Trip end. Check out at any time today. Either travel back to Colombo Airport or stay on to continue your travels in Sri Lanka. See you again soon!

The trip starts in Negombo on day 1. You’ll need to fly into Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) where you’ll be met by one of our friendly local team and transferred to your starting accommodation. There are no activities planned until this evening when you’ll meet your group, so arrive at a time that suits you. You can request a transfer up to two days before the tour begins.

The trip finishes in Unawatuna on day 10. The closest airport is Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). You’ll need to arrange your own return transfer but your guide can help with this. Taxi takes between 2 and 3 hours so you should leave plenty of time to get to the airport to account for traffic or unforeseen delays.

More

You need to be 18 or over to join this trip.

You’ll need a visa to enter Sri Lanka. If you’re staying for less than 30 days, you can get a visa online before you travel. Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from your date of entry to Sri Lanka.

When’s The Best Time To Go?

Sri Lanka is a great destination all year round. The island is always hot (28 - 32°C and 15 - 18°C in the highlands). There are two separate monsoon systems so that from May to September the east coast and northern regions are fine and dry and from October to February, the west is best.

What Kind Of Clothes Should I Pack?

Cool, lightweight cotton clothing is best for hot, humid climates. You may have to cover up when visiting certain regions or religious buildings, so make sure you’ve got something that covers your knees, shoulders and chest. We’d also suggest you pack a pair of trainers as we will be doing some short hikes. Proper walking boots are probably not necessary.

What Kind Of Bag Should I Take?

We’d always suggest a rucksack rather than a suitcase as they’re easier to travel with. We’ll be moving around quite a lot and a heavy suitcase in the heat isn’t fun!
