Day 1: Let’s head out on the road!
Get off to a star spangled start with a trip to Hollywood, where you can take a selfie standing on your favourite star on the Walk of Fame! Then it’s time to get to know the group as we head out on a road trip across the California desert towards Arizona. Admire the huge saguaro cacti as we cruise along enjoying that exotic desert heat. We’ll stop off at Colorado River for a refreshing dip before pitching our tents up for a night beneath the stars! First, a night out is in order, so we’ll round the group up for a few drinks in the resort town of Laughlin!
Day 2: The Awesome Grand Canyon
We’ll stock up on drinks and snacks this morning before enjoying the ride to the immense Grand Canyon! The huge trucks thundering along the highway, the occasional massive roadside billboards, and the enormous portions served at the food and gas truck stops tell us that we can only be in America! We’ll soon reach the Kaibab National Forest and head up to Grand Canyon Village. Be prepared for the sight of your life as we drive up to the rim to catch our first glimpse of the rusty red expanse that draws visitors from all over the world – and now you’re part of it! It’s truly spellbinding, so take your time to marvel in awe! Wait for sunset, or get up early for sunrise...it will be worth it.
A helicopter flight over the Canyon is available as an optional excursion today for approximately $270 and is a fantastic way to view the iconic scenery, otherwise simply take a hike a small part of the way into the Canyon.
Day 3: Oh no! Hang on to your credit cards...Vegas is next!
We leave the Canyon and return to the highway, turning west to retrace our tracks and take a detour to Seligman, a small town left over from the old days of Route 66. If you don’t know the story, Route 66 was the first road built to cross America, running from Chicago to L.A. The route was established in 1926, but was a dirt road in many places. As traffic increased with people heading west to escape the Depression, more bits were paved, until the road was finished in 1935. In 1964 The Rolling Stones had a smash hit with their recording of “Route 66” and made the road famous worldwide. There are few places left where route 66 still exists, but in Seligman you can see bits of the past and buy pure Americana souvenirs!
After the Canyon and Route 66, we head into Vegas! We’ll cruise the Strip in a super stretch limo, then check into our hotel. Feeling adventurous? Try the Stratosphere ride. Feeling thirsty? You’ll find tons of places to grab a drink with the group. Feeling lucky? Hit the casinos, it’s free to just wander around!
Day 4: OMG! Are we still in Vegas?
Sleep in to get over last night, or get up and hit the shops! You can explore the hotels and casinos, take in a show or even get married dressed as Elvis and Priscilla! Vegas is your playground, so get go-karting, feel the high on a roller coaster rides, or head out on a VIP club tour!
Day 5: Back to the country. Phew!
We’ll say goodbye to the Vegas euphoria and get stuck into a terrific day’s road trip to Yosemite National Park today. We’ll head off early and take in several stops before reaching the absolutely beautiful park. The park is set in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, so get ready for sweeping mountain views and stunning flora and fauna. Take some snap shots of your epic surroundings, or head to Yosemite Village to tour the museum and learn more about the history of the park. We’ll camp and relax this evening before a great day in the outdoors tomorrow!
Day 6: Action and adventure in Yosemite
We’ll rise bright and early for an energising start to the day! There are trails to be hiked, paths to be biked, wild animals to spot and photos to be taken! The waterfalls are stunning and rush over the massive granite cliff-face of El Capitan, which stretches 3000 feet straight up from the ground. You’ll see people scaling the mountains high above the giant Sequoia trees. You’ll love the refreshing vibe of Yosemite after your Vegas jaunt, so make sure you don’t miss a thing!
Day 7: Let’s go, let’s go, to San Francisco...
The centre of the hippy culture and flower power in the 1960’s is now, along with Silicon Valley to the south, the capital of the tech industry. We’ll arrive in time to stop off at The Golden Gate Bridge, and if you want to experience an unbeatable view you can walk right across it! Check out the ancient cable cars and the impossibly steep hills. The tour ends at 5pm, and we’ll be on hand if you want to arrange further travel for more exploration!
