USA
Project Age LimitAged between 18 and 30 years due to visa restrictions.
Programme RequirementsYou need to be currently enrolled at a UK university. Certain EU countries are also eligible - please contact us for details. We can only place you if you can commit to a minimum of 3 months.
Programme Details
This programme is specifically for full time university students looking to spend their summer holidays experiencing the true American culture. We will find you a job in the USA for 3-5 months and make your working holiday hassle free! You will also have the opportunity to stay an extra 30 days in the country after your job ends to do with as you please.
The jobs included in this full service package are casual seasonal placements in the service sector. Jobs are fairly basic, requiring little specialist training. You will be given any required training (like using a particular cash register) when you start. You must be able to commit to a minimum of 3 months for the work placement.
The types of jobs available include: housekeeping, customer service, food and beverage, kitchen help, maintenance, sales help and amusement park work. They will be full time positions and the average non-tipped job wage is $7-8 per hour.
Most placements are in holiday resort areas throughout the US, and include Eastern Mountain Resorts, Eastern Ocean Resorts, Midwestern Resorts, Southern Resorts and Western Resorts. Due to the seasonal nature of jobs and living costs we cannot place applicants in large cities.
We will assist you with everything you need for your working holiday experience in America. You will not have to worry about anything! Make sure you get your application in early to avoid dissapointment.
Work and Fun Your visa allows you to spend a further 30 days as a tourist in the USA after finishing your work placement. As a participant on this programme you automatically qualify for 5% discount on our USA Tours. Why not add on a group adventure tour to complete the ultimate American summer experience? We have 7-day tours (see trip codes USFT and USWW), 14-day tours (see trip codes USBE and USWT2) and 21-day tours (see trip codes USSS and USNT).

USA
The United States of America is a melting pot of cultures all thrown together 200 odd years ago by the mass immigration to the ‘New World’ by pretty much everyone; Europeans, Asians, South Americans and so on. Throw in the customs of the African Americans brought over by the slave trade and the Native Americans and you’ve got the world’s current super-power.
Made up of 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii the USA is pretty huge! With this hugeness comes a whole variety of geological features, for example, the Great Lakes in the North, the desert of Nevada, the Grand Canyon, the rolling prairies of the Midwest, the Rocky Mountains and the subtropical marshlands of the Everglades in Florida. You have a bit of everything in the USA- including the most famous and cosmopolitan cities New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Miami, breathtaking National Parks- Yosemite and Yellowstone, right down to the quaint colonial towns and low populous central and Midwest states full of ranches and farms. You can get involved or you can get away, there really is something for everyone and oddly enough because American Culture is so thoroughly known around the world, its all bound to be somewhat familiar. Why not explore this continent a little further and find something a bit different?
Time The USA has four time zones (not including Hawaii and Alaska) all of which are behind the Greenwich Mean Time. They are:
- Eastern time; five hours behind GMT (New York)
- Central time; six hours behind GMT (Chicago, Texas)
- Mountain time; seven hours behind GMT(Rocky Mountains, Southwest)
- Pacific time; eight hours behind GMT(California, Nevada)
Don’t forget to take Daylight Saving Time into account from mid-March to early November.
Climate
This is really dependent on where you are! Generally though, the temperature throughout the USA is temperate. As a general rule it is hotter the farther south you go (you can still go to the beach in Florida and Southern California in the winter!) with more extreme weather the further North and the further from the coast you are. The USA encompasses all six of the major climate zones from polar through to tropical humid- the only country in the world that does.
